Strickland appoints new SSCC trustees

When the Southern State Board of Trustees holds their regular session Sept. 8, a full board of nine trustees could be in attendance, as Gov. Ted Strickland's office has confirmed two additional appointments to the board.
Amanda Wurst told The Highland County Press this week that Donald Moore and Judy Craig, both of Fayette County, have been appointed to serve.
Craig has been employed as the policy deployment manager for Lucent Technologies, production staff manager and systems implementation manager for AT&T, and service representative for Ohio Bell. She serves on the Fayette County Democratic Executive Committee, the Fayette County Democrat Club, the Fayette County Board of Elections, and has volunteered at Miami Trace Schools and the American Red Cross Blood Bank.
Moore has a background in education spanning 42 years as a teacher, counselor and administrator with Washington City Schools. He is a present 10-year member of the board of trustees for the Carnegie Public Library in Washington C.H., 10-year member of the Board of Zoning Appeals, and a 25-year member of the board of trustees for the Fayette County Historical Society.
In June, Strickland appointed Michelle Cimis, of Hillsboro, and Leilani Popp, of Wilmington, to the board, but there has not been a meeting since that date, and the new members have not been sworn in.
Craig, Moore, Popp and Cimis will join the current members, Kay Ayres, Highland County; Paul Hall, Brown County; Ben Houser, Brown County; Rory Ryan, Adams County; and Dr. Vicki Wilson, Clinton County.
There had been an open seat since February when board member Don Gephart, of Clinton County, resigned for health reasons.
Ralph Shell of Highland County, and Patty Griffiths and Jim Ward, both of Fayette County, went off the board in May of this year.
During the Sept. 8 meeting, the board could be presented with consideration of the pending contract agreement between the college and the faculty's Southern State Education Association.
The college announced July 20 that a tentative agreement had been reached between SSCC and the SSEA.
The release stated that the current contract is scheduled to expire in
August 2010.
The last contract was signed in November 2008 by the SSEA and Jim Ward, who was then the president of the college board of trustees. However, the matter did not go before the full board for a vote.
