Storm knocks out traffic lights

A thunderstorm that moved through the region Friday night knocked power out in the Harry Sauner Road, North High Street area of Hillsboro. 

 

According to the Hillsboro Police Department a call received at approximately 9 p.m. reported "a burned out transformer" at the intersection of High Street and Hobart Drive. Hillsboro Fire and Rescue responded to the scene. 

 

According to American Electric Power's Web site, 232 customers were without power at 9:30 p.m., including area businesses. The traffic light at the intersection of Harry Sauner Road and North High Street was not working for a time and the Hillsboro Police Department was dispatched to the area.

 

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, radar showed that approximately half an inch of rain fell in the area in the past 24 hours, but specific precipitation reports for Hillsboro were not immediately available.

 

"This particular band of showers should be clearing in the next few hours," said meteorologist Andrew Snyder. "There is a chance of rain continuing into (Saturday)."
