Secretary LaRose expands statewide training program to include Candidate 101 courses
Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose announced today an expansion of the office’s training platform to include publicly available training opportunities to help equip candidates with the resources to understand Ohio’s election process.
“The success of our communities depends on good people stepping up to answer the high calling of public service, and we want to make sure they have the tools they need to succeed,” said Secretary LaRose. “These convenient courses will help candidates confidently navigate the election process, comply with Ohio law, and focus on what matters most: earning the trust and support of the voters they hope to serve.”
New courses available to the public:
How to Run for Office: This training provides an interactive overview of the process to run for public office in Ohio.
How to File for Candidacy: This training demonstrates who can file for office in Ohio, the requirements for different offices in Ohio, and the best practices to ensure a candidate follows the correct process.
Campaign Finance for Candidates: This training helps candidates that are running for office best understand the campaign finance requirements, process, and best practices to ensure all guidelines and laws are followed when dealing with campaign funds and fundraising, and filing.
How Ohio’s Elections Work: This training provides a general overview of the entire process of elections in Ohio. From running for office to voting to volunteering, these course shows how your vote count and how elections are secure, accessible, and trusted. It’s also an opportunity for young Ohioans to learn the basics of participating in elections.
“The more informed candidates are about the process, the better it is for everyone involved in administering elections,” said Michelle Henricks, Deputy Director for the Williams County Board of Elections. “The Secretary of State trainings have become a useful resource for election officials, and we are excited they are expanding their resources to the public.”
These courses are an expansion of the Ohio Election Readiness Training Institute, which the office launched last year. This training platform features a modernized menu of course material focused on the legal requirements and standard operating procedures for administering elections. Each training module provides participants with interactive presentations that have been proven to increase knowledge and retention.
