Rumble in the Hills returns to Rocky Fork Lake July 27-28

The annual Rumble in the Hills returns to Rocky Fork Lake Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 28.
Rumble in the Hills is an exciting annual weekend of hydroplane powerboat racing at Rocky Fork Lake in southern Ohio. It¹s the last weekend in July and is family friendly and free to attend. It's racing, but the
event is much more than that.
According to the American Power Boat Association, the competition is on a 1.25-mile course for four laps (five miles). The course elevation is 880 feet. For vintage classes, it is a 1.25-mile course for up to five minutes. Races are scheduled to start around 10 a.m.
The classes both days will include Special Event, National Modified, 2.5 Litre Stock, Jersey Speed Skiff, Sportsman Advanced, Vintage, 2.5 Litre Modified, 1 Litre, Super Stock, Sportsman Entry, Grand National Hydro, E350, 1.5 Litre Stock, Grand Prix and 6 Litre.
Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place. This regatta is sanctioned through APBA.
In addition to the races, there will be fun for the whole family all weekend long.
Saturday's events will include Joey's Jeep Extravaganza at the East End Overlook Retreat on Lucas Lane, with registration from noon-3 p.m. and trophies around 4:30 p.m. Registration is $20, and prizes will be awarded for the top 30, overall best of show and ladies' choice. Proceeds will benefit firefighter training and life safety education for children and adults in Highland County.
Local food vendors will also be set up, and there will be live music. Also on Saturday, a kids zone will be set up from noon-4 p.m. at Rocky Fork State Park on East Shore Drive. Among the activities this year is a kiddie tractor pull. Registration will be held 1-1:30 p.m., with the pull at 1:30. The event will also include cornhole, crafts, games, prizes and much more.
On Sunday, July 28 starting at 11 a.m., a cornhole tournament will be held on East Shore Drive. It is a $20 blind draw, with 50 percent of the proceeds going back to the event. There will also be a $5 last man standing competition. Preregister on Scoreholio.
Sunday will also see the return of the annual Joey¹s Classic Car Show from noon-3 p.m. Trophies will be awarded around 4:30 p.m. Registration is $20, and proceeds will benefit firefighter training and life safety education for children and adults. This is the main fundraiser for the Highland County Firefighters Association.
Car show trophies will be awarded in the following classes: Class A, through 1954; Class B, 1955-1965; Class C, 1966-1977; Class D, 1978-2000; Class E, 2001-present; Class F, special interest; Class G, rat rod; Class H, street rod; Best Ford; Best Chrysler; Best General Motors; Best Antique; Overall Best of Show; and Ladies Choice.
Also throughout the weekend, the Sassafras Music Festival will be held at East End Overlook Retreat on Lucas Lane. Admission is free (bring lawn chairs and blankets), and there will be food and other vendors.
Saturday's concert series will kick off with Gem Kewl from noon-1:30 p.m., followed by Steven Dowd (2-3 p.m.), Mark Duncan (3:30-4:30 p.m.) and Timberlane Express (7-9 p.m.). An open mic/jam session will be held from 5-6:30 p.m.
On Sunday, Counting Stars will appear in concert from 1-2:30 p.m., followed by an open mic/jam session from 2:30-3:30 p.m.
Food vendors will be parked on both sides of the lake from 10 a.m. until dark.
