Ribbon-cutting marks opening of Adena orthopaedic/spine unit

CHILLICOTHE – The opening of Adena Health System’s new Orthopaedic/Spine Unit will be a huge benefit for patients, providing even more highly advanced orthopaedic procedures without patients having to travel elsewhere, said Mark Shuter, Adena’s President and Chief Executive Officer. Shuter joined Dr. Brian Cohen and Dr. Jeffrey Glenn Wednesday afternoon in cutting the ribbon to mark the official opening of the new unit, on the third floor of the recently completed Northeast Wing on the campus of Adena Medical Center.
Adena’s chief executive also welcomed Dr. Glenn to the medical staff. The orthopaedic surgeon, who specializes in total joint replacements, will have a significant impact on Adena’s patient population, Shuter said.
The availability of a surgeon who is fellowship-trained in total joint replacement, both in hip and knee replacement, is not something you typically find in a hospital system the size of Adena, said Dr. Cohen, medical director of Adena Bone & Joint Center. With the addition of Dr. Glenn to the Adena medical staff, the new Orthopaedic/ Spine Unit will attract and treat patients from central Ohio, West Virginia and northern Kentucky for total joint replacement surgery, according to the medical director.
The Othopaedic/Spine Unit is the last specialty service to take up space in the $45.5 million Northeast Wing, which officially opened in May.
The wing, Shuter said, is a testament to Adena’s commitment to provide the best and most sophisticated health care to people in the health system’s 13-county service area. The services provided in this structure, alone, are minimizing the need for patients and their families to travel away from home for excellent health care, he said.
On the first floor of the Northeast Wing is Adena’s new Women and Children’s Center, with a new Cardiology Center on the second floor, providing both cardiopulmonary and cardiovascular services.
