Rain can't dampen spirits at KAMP Dovetail

The rainy weather will not dampen the spirits, or cancel the ceremonies, at KAMP Dovetail Monday, when kampers past and present will kick off a week in the sun, and celebrate 30 years of Kids And Motivated People.
SATH (Supplemental Assistance to the Handicapped) Executive Director Linda Allen said that ceremonies are still on schedule to begin at 7 p.m. at Rocky Fork Lake, when state and local elected officials, and current and former kampers will celebrate the 30 years the kamp has been proving children with special needs the opportunity to participate in summertime activities, such as camping, fishing, horseback riding and swimming.
"The kampers are all registering this afternoon, and we hope that by the time the ceremonies are scheduled the rain will have stopped," Allen said. "We have several dignitaries who will be reading proclamations, including Cliff Rosenberger (Ohio 86th District Representative) and representatives from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources."
Allen said that unless there is a an absolute downpour with thunder and lightening, the kamp participants will assemble at the amphitheater at Rocky Fork Lake at 7 p.m. for the presentation.
"We have a six-foot tall birthday cake and people will be lighting candles, some of them in memory of a person," Allen said. "Everyone has really been looking forward to this and it's going to be really emotional. I don't want to cancel it."
The evening is scheduled to conclude with a fireworks display.
"We have a rain day scheduled for the fireworks for Thursday, but I don't want to reschedule," Allen said. "We'll have the kids out there in ponchos."
