Presidents Day storm closes schools Tuesday
All Highland County schools are closed Tuesday after the Presidents Day snowstorm. Many secondary roads remained snow covered early Tuesday morning.
Crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation - District 9 were working during the overnight hours to combat a winter storm that has already dumped up to seven inches of snow on some parts of the region.
Although crews are plowing and treating the state highway system, primary routes are likely to remain mostly snow covered and second and third-priority routes will be snow covered through the overnight and morning hours due to the additional accumulation that is expected.
Along with additional snow, ODOT crews are combating blowing and drifting snow on numerous routes, particularly in Highland, Ross and northern Adams and Brown counties.
Motorists are advised to proceed with caution when traveling through flat areas, as well as over hills and in curves where snow may drift and cover plowed surfaces.
In addition to hills and curves, motorists are also advised to pay heed to bridges and overpasses, which are likely to freeze more quickly than
surface pavement and are susceptible to ice.
Crews will continue their efforts to treat and plow the state highway system; however, motorists are reminded to exercise extreme caution,
remembering that conditions can change from minute to minute and from mile to mile.

With more than 100 snow plows in operation, District 9 drivers cover more than 4,000 miles of roadway in Adams, Brown, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross and Scioto counties.
