President grants disaster declaration for state of Ohio after Sen. Husted, Ohio delegation request

COLUMBUS – Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio) this week praised President Donald Trump’s announcement that he will grant the state of Ohio a major disaster declaration following devastating damage caused by severe storms that moved through Ohio from Aug. 10 to 23, 2026.

The announcement comes after Husted helped lead the effort requesting an expedited disaster declaration from Trump and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

“Ohioans have been hit hard by these storms, and I’m grateful to President Trump and the administration for acting quickly to provide Ohio with federal assistance. I’ll continue pushing to make sure Ohioans have the support to recover and rebuild,” said Husted.

Federal assistance is necessary to supplement the efforts and resources available to the state, local governments and disaster relief organizations as Ohio communities recover from the storm damage.

Husted also sent a letter to FEMA Administrator Cameron Hamilton and U.S. Small Business Administration Administrator Kelly Loeffler requesting they begin conducting damage assessments in Ohio as soon as possible due to the repetitive and ongoing storm impacts.
