Police officers recognized for service

Highland County Commissioners recognized the week of May 15 as National Police Week and proclaimed May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day in Highland County. Flags will be lowered to half-staff on May 15 as
resolved by the United States Congress on Oct. 1, 1962 for Peace
Officers Memorial Day. Pictured with commissioners Gary Heaton, Shane Wilkin and Tom Horst, are Leesburg Police Chief Tim Tyree, Highland County Sheriff Ron Ward, Hillsboro Police Chief Nick Thompson, Highland Marshall Dustin Malone and Lynchburg Police Chief Brandon Wooton. Horst thanked the officers and their families for the public service. Ward also thanked the commissioners for recognizing National Police Week.

Horst and Heaton, both former law enforcement officers, thanked the officers and their families for their public service. Ward also thanked the commissioners for recognizing National Police Week.
