PLANETWALDEN works with Greenfield to create a “city of innovation"
PLANETWALDEN has announced it will open a new research and development (R&D) facility in Greenfield, as a center of excellence for new product development. PLANETWALDEN is a high-technology engineering and manufacturing company. The 12,000 square ft facility will represent a major investment, and is expected to be operational by April 2011. PLANETWALDEN will be joined by, A.C.T.S., Visibly Green LLC, Re-Charge and Persistent Energy LLC to co-locate into the facility and bring their latest R&D and
innovations in environmental sustainability and renewable energy.
The new R&D facility will replace an existing Amfil Technologies clean-tech facility in Malibu, California and be the U.S. center for A.C.T.S. of London,
Ontario, Canada. Persistent specializes in low-cost solar and wind energy equipment. Visibly Green and Re-Charge develop biomass and plant-based products.
"This is a major investment, and further demonstrates our commitment to Greenfield" said Barbara Sapienza, PLANETWALDEN president. "It will provide a significant capability that will fuel our new product development plans and ensure continuous product and technology leadership to benefit all our customers, and will boost our ability to serve and grow in the green power and green products business." PlanetWalden plans to help Greenfield meet its economic, physical and social priorities with goals of a revitalize downtown economy, more local employment opportunities, redevelopment of existing vacant buildings and a community open to outside investment for jobs and recreational opportunities.
“But, it’s more than a research lab,” said planner, DrRich. “The center is designed to be an economic development engine, making its capabilities
available to Greenfield students and others in need via its incubator – a business cooperative. PlanetWalden’s idea is to train and employ area residents, providing real skill-building and educational opportunities in “green industry" by partnering with Greenfield, Ohio and area schools and colleges.”
Dave Culver, project manager said " We intend that this project be a living model for reducing energy and to create a skilled workforce. The education and training arm is designed for the developing of the skills necessary by using internship experience and engineer mentorship. Another goal of the incubator will be to advance the economic, social and political impact of struggling entrepreneurial business owners and their enterprises.
PLANETWALDEN's business will also purchase and maintain other centers in Greenfield for specific project development. The company will also add a new
“waste” resources product development capability near the Greenfield railway. Billy Wertz of PLANETWALDEN, "our plan is to bring 5 jobs with us,
adding 5 more shortly after the first of the year, and be up to 50 within six months. These are aggressive numbers within this  step by step planned
approach so with a little luck from the economy these steps could move very rapidly. "
Betty Bishop, city manager of Greenfield, said, "This is another exciting day for Greenfield, Ohio.  With the investments of these companies, along with hopeful grant and loan opportunities to stretch those investment dollars, the impact on this area will be enormous. PlanetWalden has already invested in the community and ownership will be moving to the community in the near future."
Sapienza, said “Greenfield is the perfect location for PLANETWALDEN and to attract local and outside talent. The schools are excellent, crime low, community very supportive, real estate is inexpensive and with access to Cincinnati, Dayton,  and Columbus, it’s ideal for relocation.”
Bishop added, "I want to thank PlanetWalden’s ownership and all the people involved in this endeavor for choosing Greenfield and I pray for God’s blessings on every business involved."
