OVI sobriety checkpoint planned in Butler County tomorrow

The Hamilton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol announced today that troopers will conduct an OVI checkpoint in Butler County tomorrow evening. The exact location of the checkpoint will be announced tomorrow morning, Aug. 13.

The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.

So far this year, there have been 5,535 OVI-related crashes on Ohio roadways. Of those crashes, 174 people were killed and 2,523 people were injured.

“Troopers have made 9,440 OVI arrests this year to combat these dangerous drivers. OVI
checkpoints are designed to deter impaired driving and proactively remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways,” said Lieutenant Dexter Howard, Hamilton Post commander.

The Patrol is seeking driven, service-minded individuals who are ready to make a difference and removed impaired drivers from Ohio roadways. Those interested can text “joinOSHP” to (614) 654-OSHP.

The Patrol also offers a ride-along program and those interested are encouraged to contact their local OSHP post to schedule a ride-along with a trooper during their shift.
