One arrested, one sought on aggravated burglary charge

A Hillsboro man has been arrested on a second-degree felony aggravated burglary charge, and another man is still being sought by authorities.
On Aug. 10 at 9:38 pm the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a resident in the 10000 block of Careytown Road in Penn Township stating that she awoke and found a male in her house. The male suspect had ran out of the house when he was confronted by the homeowner, and got into the passenger side of a vehicle.
The resident was able to provide a detailed description of the suspect, as well as the suspect vehicle. She reported that the vehicle had left southbound on Careytown Road.
HCSO road patrol units, as well as Hillsboro Police Department officers, were dispatched to the area and a deputy observed a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description southbound on Careytown Road at a high rate of speed. The deputy turned on the vehicle just north of Hillsboro. The deputy lost sight of the vehicle in the area of Careytown Road and Harry Sauner Road HCSO and HPD units then checked the area where the vehicle was last seen and located the suspect vehicle in the parking lot of Walmart. Law enforcement worked with Walmart loss prevention personnel to identify the two suspects who parked the vehicle and entered the store. HCSO located one suspect inside the Walmart store. He was arrested and identified as the individual who had allegedly burglarized the home on Careytown Road. He was identified as Dusty Cox, 31, of Hillsboro.
The other suspect had left the store before he could be identified and apprehended.
Cox was charged with aggravated burglary, a felony of the second and appeared in Hillsboro Municipal Court on Aug. 11 where his bond was set at $100,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 25 at 9 a.m.
The second suspect was identified as David G. Ross, 43, of Hillsboro. He currently has a parole violation order of arrest along with the Burglary charge. Anyone with knowledge of the whereabouts of Ross should contact the Highland County Sheriff’s Office at (937) 393-1421.
The case will be sent to Highland County Prosecutor Anneka Collins office where it will be heard by an upcoming session of the Highland County grand jury where additional charges are possible.
