Ohio Watercolor Society brings exhibition to Southern State

Southern State Community College is proud to present the Ohio Watercolor Society’s (OWS) 32nd annual touring exhibition “WatercolorOhio 2009” at the Appalachian Gateway Center on the college’s South Campus, 12681 U.S. Route 62, Fincastle. The exhibition is open for viewing from April 1-28, on Mondays from 12 noon to 9 p.m. and Tuesdays through Fridays from 12 noon to 4 p.m. An open-house event will be held from 4-9 p.m. on Thursday, April 22.
The OWS exhibit features 40 paintings chosen by juror Chen-Khee Chee from 180 Ohio artists displaying a variety of styles and subject matters. This traveling exhibit is one sure to appeal to a variety of artistic tastes.
“The exhibit reflects great diversity of style, subject and approach, reflecting the spirit of our times weighing strongly on entries chosen for awards,” said Chee. “I am not looking for specific themes or trends, but to select works solely based upon their artistic merits.”
The Ohio Watercolor Society was organized to advance the stature of watercolor and other water-soluble media used by contemporary artists today. The OWS promotes awareness of the water media to the public by fostering an appreciation of the medium and the artists who produce the works.
Viewing schedules are subject to change due to special events that may be scheduled in the Appalachian Gateway Center. For more information or special viewing hours, please contact Amanda Lewis at 1-800-628-7722, ext. 3520, or James Werline at ext. 3669.
While visiting Southern State’s South Campus, stop by the Appalachian Gateway Center Gift Shop which is stocked with area artisan works, fine art pieces and student work from SSCC’s art studio. All items are juried. Gift shop hours are from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. In addition, the watercolor paintings of David Kline are on display in the South Campus Learning Resources Center.
