On Aug. 28, the Ohio State Highway Patrol requested assistance from the Hillsboro Police Department and the Highland County Sheriff's Office in order to apprehend an armed suspect.
According to a news release from the Hillsboro Police Department, a state trooper had conducted a traffic stop on Willow Street in Hillsboro. An occupant of the vehicle, later identified as Justin A. Stubbs, fled into a nearby residence.
The driver of the vehicle said Stubbs was "on the run from the law" and was armed with a handgun, the HPD said.
As officers approached the Willow Street residence, two people were noticed near a vehicle in the driveway. When approached, Stubbs fled on foot. Officers used tasers on Stubbs, to no avail.
As officers continued to attempt to apprehend the suspect, Stubbs "reached for his waistband and attempted to remove a 9 mm handgun," the HPD said.
After a struggle, officers were able to subdue Stubbs. He is currently incarcerated at the Highland County Justice Center.
