Mustard takes out petitions to run for commissioner

A Paint Township trustee has taken out petitions to run for a seat on the Highland County Board of Commissioners.
Randy Mustard, who has been a trustee for 16 years in the Rocky Fork Lake area township, said that he has taken out petitions and intends to file by the Dec. 7 deadline.
Mustard, a Democrat, said that he will be running against Republican incumbent Tom Horst. Mustard was re-elected to his township trustee position in the November general election.
Horst has filed for re-election, and New Vienna area resident Fred Boggess (R) has also taken out petitions to run. Incumbent Republican Shane Wilkin is also up for re-election this year. New Market resident Steve Cowdrey (R) has taken out petitions to run against Wilkin.
Highland County Prosecutor Anneka Collins sought an opinion, at Mustard's request, from the Ohio Attorney General's Office regarding whether or not he could continue to serve as a township trustee while he runs for the office. Collins will seek an opinion on whether Mustard may continue to serve as a trustee if he is elected to the board of commissioners, or if he must resign.
Mustard, who is self-employed, said that after 16 years of public service working with the townships, he feels that he is prepared to serve the entire county and bring geographic diversity to the board.
"It's nothing new," Mustard said. "They just work with a lot larger number. And it would be nice to have a commissioner from the southeast part of the county instead of everyone originally being from Lynchburg," Mustard said.[[In-content Ad]]
