Lynchburg Clay High School hosts science fair

On Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010, Lynchburg Clay High School held its third annual Science Fair.  Approximately 250 students designed a scientific experiment, conducted research, wrote a research report, and participated in a personal interview with a judge.  Judges for the event included retired and current teachers, professionals, and community members.  Projects ranged in topic from chemistry to biology and physics to genetics.
Thirteen projects, which received a Superior rating, were selected to represent Lynchburg Clay at the District Science Day which will be held at Wilmington College on March 27, 2010.  Those students selected to compete at the district include Lindsey Cater, Rachel Clonch, Tonya Fender, DJ Green, Darren Harp, Jessica Hickey, Nathan Jones, Brad Keltner, Shelby Rammel, Patrick Roush, Erin Rowley, Zach Smith, and Kyle Wilkin.
Three Governor's Awards were presented to students.  Tonya Fender received the Governor's Award for Excellence in Agriculture and Food Science.  Nathan Jones received the Governor's Award for Excellence in Materials Science Research and DJ Green received the Governor'¹s Award for Excellence in Manufacturing Science Research.  The science fair is coordinated by high school science teachers Lara Hamilton, James O'Connor, and Alicia Shope.
