Kontos to lead common pleas judges in 2012

Trumbull County Judge Peter J. Kontos will serve as president of the Ohio Common Pleas Judges Association for 2012 after his election during the annual winter conference.
Supreme Court of Ohio Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor administered the oath of office to Judge Kontos and the other judges elected to leadership positions. She also spoke about the state of the judiciary.
Judge Kontos has served on the common pleas bench since 1997. Before that, he spent 17 years working in the Trumbull County prosecutor’s office. He earned his undergraduate degree at Bowling Green State University and his law degree from the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.
Additional association officers include:
* Scioto County Judge Howard H. Harcha III, president-elect;
* Darke County Judge Jonathan P. Hein, first vice president;
* Franklin County Judge Guy L. Reece II, second vice president;
* Licking County Judge Thomas M. Marcelain, third vice president;
* Cuyahoga County Judge David T. Matia, fourth vice president;
* Wayne County Judge Mark K. Wiest, secretary;
* Champaign County Judge Roger B. Wilson, treasurer;
* Hancock County Judge Reginald J. Routson, past president.
In addition, the association elected Adams County Judge Brett M. Spencer as a new trustee and renewed the trustee term of Morrow County Judge Howard E. Hall. They join four other trustees, including: Putnam County Judge Randall L. Basinger, Lucas County Judge Linda J. Jennings, Hamilton County Judge Jody M. Luebbers and Summit County Judge Elinor Marsh Stormer.
The common pleas judges association’s membership includes all general division judges of the state’s common pleas courts, and its mission is “to improve the law, the legal system and the effective administration of justice.”[[In-content Ad]]
