Justice Department releases tape, transcript of Hur-Biden interview from 2023
The U.S. Department of Justice has released recordings and a transcript of DOJ special counsel Robert Hur's 2023 interview with then-President Joe Biden over Biden's mishandling of classified information.
Excerpts from the interview reveal Biden's hesitant tone of voice and difficulty remembering dates.
In one four-minute clip, Biden was asked by Hur's team about where he kept his documents shortly after leaving office as vice president. Biden's response is marked by long pauses, and his voice appears hoarse at times. Instead of answering Hur's question, Biden rambles as he describes the period around his son Beau's death, which May 30, 2015 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, Md., not in 2017 or 2018 as the former president said.
