Walmart and the Meals On Wheels Association of America have teamed up with Highland County Community Action Organization and Jerry Haag Motors to help feed senior citizens of Highland County.
The Senior Nutrition Home Delivered Meals Program feeds more than 165 different senior residents of Highland County each day. Three drivers deliver these meals with each driver making more than 30 to 40 stops and driving some 100 miles daily. This service is very important to many of our senior Highland County residents who are mainly homebound, especially in the winter months, and many have reported that the driver delivering their meals is the only person they see all day.
The dependability of the delivery vehicles is very important to providing this service and sustaining the program. Walmart and the Meals On Wheels Association of America have provided a grant in the amount of $20,000.00 to replace the oldest of the three delivery vehicles with a new Chevy Equinox from Jerry Haag Motors equipped with a warming oven to keep the meals warm as they are transported. This more fuel efficient vehicle will save approximately $5,000 per year in maintenance and fuel consumption over its predecessor which has now logged more than 220,000 miles.
The Walmart Corporation along with the Meals On Wheels Association of America, are very dedicated to helping programs like the Highland County Community Action Organization’s Senior Nutrition Home Delivered Meals Program. In 2009 these grantees provided funds for Highland County Community Action Organization to replace a vehicle that was also high in miles and some 10 years old. In fact last year Walmart donated more than $144,000.00 in the state of Ohio, much of that going to nutrition programs.
On behalf of the seniors of Highland County and the Highland County Community Action Organization we thank the Walmart Corporation, Meals On Wheels Association of America, and Jerry Haag Motors for helping Highland County Community Action Organization continue to deliver nutritious meals to many of the senior citizens of Highland County.[[In-content Ad]]
