Hedke said the business, located just east of New Vienna, is interested in acquiring roadway lighting at the intersection of Buckeye Road and S.R.
73.
Hedke said the business is seeking some form of lighting, either a street light, flashing light, or traffic signal device, for the
intersection. He said Huhtamaki would be willing to pay the monthly fee for the lighting if the county, the Ohio Department of Transportation,
or Dayton Power and Light could install the device. Otworth said he would consult with DP&L and report back to Hedke.
Sheriff reports on radio interference,
arbitration settlement
Highland County Sheriff Ron Ward informed commissioners of a recent settlement involving two HCSO employees with grievances over insurance
deductibles.
“An agreement was reached; one was for $100 and one was for $250, plus a splitting of the cost of arbitration,” Ward said. “I believe this is a
favorable settlement for the county and the employees.”
Commissioners agreed to pay the split on the cost of arbitration, approximately $490.
Ward also discussed radio transmission problems from the Tower Drive antennas and/or coaxial cabling.
“We’ve got radio interference that’s causing problems,” Ward said. “I would ask the board to pay for this now and be reimbursed later {through
grant funding}.”
“I think we could as long as someone stays on top of the grant,” Wilkin said.
“I can do that,” Ward replied. “I think it’s a high priority.”
Ward said his office is working with EMA Director Jim Lyle to acquire funds through Homeland Security for the project.
Ward also informed the board his office has received a $14,850 Justice Assistance Grant for enforcement overtime.

Commissioners began Wednesday’s meeting, after a call to order, with a brief executive session with Brent Fite regarding a potential acquisition of
uptown property on West Main Street.
Resolutions
In other action, commissioners approved the following resolutions, all by 3-0 votes:
* The authorization of appropriation to the Recycling budget from Unappropriated Funds to Other, in the amount of $564; Advertising, in the
amount of $750; Overhead, in the amount of $200; and Supplies, in the amount of $486.
* The authorization of a transfer from CSEA Administrative Account to Public Assistance Account (H-00), in the amount of $7,384.24.
* The acknowledgment of the retirements of Maryanne DeMilliano and Claudia Klein from Job and Family Services, effective April 30, and Shirley
Quigley, effective March 25.
* The modification to the County Court Computer Research Fund budget and a transfer to the County Court budget as follows: modify from Computer
Research Fund to Computer Research Fund, Transfers Out, in the amount of $400; and transfer from Computer Research Fund, Transfers Out, to County
Court Juror Fees, in the amount of $400.
