Hillsboro man arrested after Alexander Lane theft

On May 15, deputies from the Highland County Sheriff's Office responded to the 3700 block of Alexander Lane in New Market Township for a reported burglary. It was reported that a safe, firearms and other property had been taken.

During the investigation, deputies discovered drag marks leading from the residence to the road. The marks led to a residence on S.R. 247 near Walker Road in Washington Township.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for the S.R. 247 property. An ATV used to drag the safe was located along with parts of the stolen safe. A search of a small cabin on the property revealed some of the stolen property. A suspect was identified and located with the assistance of the Hillsboro Police Department. Gregory S. Martin, 54, of Hillsboro, was arrested on outstanding felony warrants. With Martin in custody, new information was obtained as to the location of the missing safe, which was located in another part of the S.R. 247 property.

Martin is being held in the Highland County Justice Center on felony charges.
