Highland County under flash flood warning

A flash flood warning was issued by the National Weather Service Sunday evening for western Highland County after Thunderstorms moved through the area around 11:30 p.m.

The warning, in effect until 2:30 a.m. Monday, was issued for western Highland County, and Brown, Warren, Clermont and Hamilton counties.

According to the NWS, at 11:35 p.m., "radar indicated that thunderstorms had produced heavy rainfall across the warned area. Radar estimated up to two inches of rain has fallen. Heavy rain continues to fall across the warned area with another two inches possible through 2:30 a.m. Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause flash flooding to occur."

The NWS advises to never drive into areas where water covers the roadways. Only a few inches of rapidly flowing water can quickly carry away vehicles. Find an alternate route or wait until the water recedes. Flood dangers are harder to recognize at night.
