A Highland County Sheriff's Office deputy has been arrested and charged with menacing, according to the Hillsboro Municipal Court.

Court records indicate that Mark W. Middleton, 42, of Hillsboro was charged with menacing, a fourth-degree misdemeanor, following an incident on July 28 in Clay Township.

Middleton was arrested by Highland County Sheriff's Deputy Mike Turner, according to court records.

Highland County Sheriff Ron Ward said an administrative hearing for Middleton has been scheduled for Aug. 3.

"He is still working as a corrections officer," Ward said. "He is cooperating with the investigation.

"We're taking this very seriously," Ward said. "I can tell you that it was a domestic-related incident. It was an off-duty incident. The alleged victim is the boyfriend of his ex-wife."

Ward said it's the type of incident that his department "literally handles (with the general public) on a daily basis."

"I'm confident that we'll handle it fairly and impartially. We conferred with Fred Beery on this and have proceeded according to his advice."

Middleton is scheduled to appear in Hillsboro Municipal Court for an arraignment at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3.[[In-content Ad]]
