HCHD to host Brake for Breakfast Oct. 11

The Highland County Health Department is excited to announce the upcoming "Brake for Breakfast" Drive thru event in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
We invite the community to join us on Friday, Oct. 11 from 7-9 a.m. at the health department’s parking lot located at 1487 North High Street, Hillsboro, for a morning filled with education, empowerment, and community engagement.
Shirley Cox, registrar at the Highland County Health Department explained that “Brake for Breakfast is a special event dedicated to raising awareness about breast health and promoting early detection of breast cancer. Our aim is to encourage individuals to take charge of their health while enjoying a delicious breakfast and gaining access to valuable educational resources.”
This event will offer free educational materials on breast health, emphasizing the importance of early detection through regular screenings. Free breast cancer screenings are available through several local healthcare providers, and we want to be sure that everyone in the community know about these resources. Early detection saves lives!
The US Prevention Task Force recommends that women aged 40 to 74 at average risk for breast cancer undergo a mammogram every two years.
Women should consider both the benefits and risks of screening. Alternative screening guidelines may apply for those at higher-than-average risk. It's important to discuss your personal risk factors with your healthcare provider to determine the most appropriate schedule for mammograms.
The Ohio Department of Health’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Project (BCCP) offers programs to help uninsured or underinsured women access screenings and navigate the healthcare system, find providers and community resources, and answer questions about scheduling appointments, using insurance and more.
For eligibility or questions regarding services in southwest Ohio, call (866) 838-8973 or visit Premier Health BCCP at https://www.premierhealth.com/services/community-health/breast-and-cerv….
•• Also, the Highland County Health Department will be partnering with Highland District Hospital to provide No-Cost Mammograms on Nov. 11 at the hospital. Pre-registration is required and can be done by calling 937-393-6266.
Participants will also be treated to a complimentary breakfast, while supplies last. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to receive special gift bags filled with useful materials and resources to help raise awareness for breast cancer prevention.
Highland County nurses will also be offering the new COVID-19 vaccine and flu vaccines during the event to anyone who is interested.
