Gregory withdraws from race for U.S. Senate

Lead Summary

Eric LaMont Gregory, an independent candidate for the U.S. Senate, told The Highland County Press Friday that he has withdrawn from the election.
Gregory said it was a "devastating" decision to make, but polls show that he is running around 10-11 percent against former Congress Rob Portman, a Terrace Park Republican, and Ohio Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher, a Cleveland Democrat.
Gregory said he would be the "spoiler" candidate in the race against Portman and Fisher, which would make it more difficult for him in the race in 2012, in which he plans to run.
The general election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 2.
