Greenfield woman pleads guilty to stealing from church

A Greenfield woman pleaded guilty April 22 to one count of theft, a felony of the fourth degree, on a charge that she allegedly stole more than $40,000 from St. Benignus Catholic Church in Greenfield. 

Nancy Williams was indicted in Highland County Common Pleas Court in December on one count of theft, a felony of the fourth degree, and one count of tampering with records, a felony of the fourth degree. According to court documents, as part of the plea agreement, the tampering with records charge was dropped.

Williams was represented by attorneys David Thomas and Williams Meeks of Columbus. The state of Ohio was represented by the Highland County Prosecutor's Office.

The indictment alleged Williams stole $40,211 from the church, which was her employer, between the period of Jan. 1, 2004 and June 30, 2009. 

A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for June 23 in Highland County Common Pleas Court. According to the plea agreement, the state of Ohio has recommended Williams be sentenced to community control and pay restitution in the amount of $18,000.
