Governor DeWine celebrates revitalization projects in Chillicothe's Yoctangee Park
CHILLICOTHE — Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik visited Chillicothe this afternoon to celebrate the completion of several significant revitalization projects in Yoctangee Park, located adjacent to Chillicothe's historic First Capital District.
Funded with more than $35 million from Governor DeWine's Downtowns and Destinations Initiative, the projects include a new outdoor amphitheater and multipurpose pavilion, renovations to the historic Armory, new baseball field, new skatepark, new pickleball courts, renovated tennis courts, and additional sidewalks and greenspace.
"As Ohio's first capital and the home of four Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks, Chillicothe is truly one of Ohio's most beloved cultural and historical treasures, and my administration was proud to invest in these transformational projects," said Governor DeWine. "These improvements create new and improved public spaces where families can gather, neighbors can connect, and visitors can learn about what makes Chillicothe so special."
Governor DeWine created the Downtowns and Destinations Initiative in 2024 to revitalize historic downtown districts, create new opportunities for recreation, and amplify the experience for those visiting cultural sites in Ohio's Appalachian communities. It is one of three initiatives funded as part of the Appalachian Community Grant Program, an unprecedented $500 million investment in Ohio's 32 Appalachian counties developed by Governor DeWine and the Ohio General Assembly in 2022.
