Gipson appears for pretrial on murder charge

A pretrial was held April 30 in Highland County Common Pleas Court for a Greenfield man charged with murder.
Kermit E Gipson, 22, was indicted in March on murder, an unclassified felony with a firearm specification; and tampering with evidence, a felony of the third degree.
He appeared in court April 30 in the custody of the Highland County Sheriff's Office, accompanied by his attorney, Michael Kelly, of Mt. Orab.
The state was represented by the Highland County Prosecutor's Office.
Judge Rocky Coss scheduled a competency hearing for Friday, June 4 at 2 p.m. "so there is no question of his mental competency to proceed to trial."
Coss also said there was discussion about the gun that was allegedly used in the commission of the crime.
"It is at BCI (Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation) and there was discussion on getting it transferred to Greenfield so Mr. Kelly could examine it."
As previously reported in the Highland County Press, according to Greenfield Police Chief Tim Hester, the department received a call at 1:56 p.m. Jan. 20 of a reported shooting at 631 South Street. Upon arrival, officers found a female victim, Judy Mosler, 24, of that residence, had sustained a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. Paint Creek EMS transported Mosler to Adena-Greenfield Area Medical Center. Mosler was later transferred to Miami Valley Hospital with critical injuries. Mosler later died at Miami Valley. Officers recovered a handgun believed to be used in the shooting, Hester said.
