Zelma Furnish has announced that she is a candidate for re-election as the Democratic State Central Committee member for the 17th Senatorial District.
Furnish has served in this position for the past 19 years. She represents 10 counties: Highland, Clinton, Fayette, Pickaway, Ross, Pike, Vinton, Jackson, and Gallia, and part of Lawrence County.
Furnish is retired after serving 10 years as Director and 29 years as Deputy Director of the Highland County Board of Elections.
Furnish is a member of the Federated Democratic Women of Ohio and an honorary member of the Highland County Trustees and Clerks' Association. She is a member of the Hillsboro Women's Club and is a member of the Hillsboro First Baptist Church. Furnish has served as Secretary of the Highland County Democratic Executive Committee for 28 years. She is a member of the Highland County Democratic Womens' Club and is a member of the County Central Committee and Executive Committee.
Furnish resides at 402 West Walnut Street in Hillsboro with her husband, Bill. They  have two sons, Gary and Brent, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
