Setup for the 2010 Festival of the Bells began Wednesday afternoon, as carnival rides, food vendors and stage personnel began transforming the streets of uptown Hillsboro into the city's essential summer vacation spot.
The festival will open Thursday, July 1, with at 6:30 p.m. with the annual parade, organized by the Highland County Firefighters Association. Lineup for the parade is at 3 p.m. at the Highland County Fairgrounds, and it will follow the normal parade route up Main Street.
This year's grand marshals for the parade are David Snider, Ritchie Leeth, J.D. Dunn and Chuck Collier. Snider, retired after 33 years as a full-time firefighter with the Hillsboro Fire and Rescue; Leeth, retired after 25 years as a full-time firefighter with the Greenfield Fire Dept.; Dunn, retired after 21 years as a volunteer for the Greenfield Fire Dept. and now the Paint Creek Joint EMS and Fire District.; and Chuck Collier, a Hillsboro native who was inducted into the Country Music DJ and Radio Hall of Fame in 2009.
