Fatal crash remains under investigation
Officials continue to investigate the fatal automobile crash that occurred Sunday in Highland County, the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) Wilmington Post said.
The crash occurred around 11:50 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 24 at the intersection of state Route 138 and Mad River Road, west of Hillsboro.
The crash involved a 2021 Chevrolet Traverse, driven by David Kent Ayres, 61, traveling northeast on state Route 138, and a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by Courtney Hunley, 43, traveling north on Mad River Road.
The two collided when Hunley's Jeep failed to stop at a stop sign, entered the intersection and was struck by Ayres' vehicle.
Dr. David S. Ayres, 97, a passenger in Ayres' vehicle, sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other passengers in the same car, Shirley A. Roades, 78, and her daughter, Tamara J. Ayres, 58, sustained injuries in the crash. Roades was transported by Air Care to Miami Valley Hospital for her injuries.
Hunley sustained minor injuries.
