Dodson Township man arrested on sexual battery charge

A 31-year-old Dodson Township man has been indicted on a sexual battery charge against a 14-year-old girl. 

Nicholas A. Smith was indicted May 4 by a grand jury in Highland County Common Pleas Court on one count of sexual battery, a felony of the third degree.

According to the Highland County Sheriff's Office, the charge was the result of an investigation by the sheriff's office and caseworkers fro Highland County Children Services into allegations that Smith allegedly engaged in sexual activity with the 14-year-old female. 

Smith was arrested on May 6. He was transported to the Highland County Justice Center, where he was arraigned via video in Highland County Common Pleas Court. 

Smith was released on a surety bond of $10,000 and an own recognizance bond, and was placed on pretrial supervision. He was scheduled to have a pretrial hearing in the near future in Highland County Common Pleas Court.
