Department of Development awards $1.3 million to provide housing access for Ohioans in recovery
COLUMBUS – The Ohio Department of Development has announced $1.3 million in grants to help hundreds of Ohioans recovering from substance use disorder obtain access to safe and stable housing.
The awards, funded through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Recovery Housing Program, will support six Alcohol, Drug Addiction, and Mental Health (ADAMH) boards across the state in administering recovery housing assistance.
The Recovery Housing Program provides rental subsidies for individuals in recovery with incomes at or below 50 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI). These recovery housing options serve as a critical foundation for residents working to rebuild their lives and establish long-term stability.
“Recovery can be one of the hardest journeys a person takes in their life — and we should be doing everything we can to support it,” said Lydia Mihalik, director of the Department of Development. “By investing in recovery housing, we’re lifting up our fellow Ohioans when they need it most by providing the stability and dignity that can often make all the difference.”
Funding for the Recovery Housing Program is provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and administered at the state level by Development’s Community Services Division. The six ADAMH boards receiving grants will support housing efforts for nearly 500 Ohioans this program year.
The following communities are receiving funds:
Ashtabula County will receive $180,254 to provide rent subsidies and other supportive services at 11 certified recovery homes for men, women, and families. This funding will allow these facilities to support more than 70 individuals across the county.
Geauga County will receive $139,636 to provide rental and utility assistance to up to nearly 30 individuals in recovery from substance use disorders.
Hamilton County will receive $521,527 to support the operation of 13 recovery homes, serving men and women in recovery from substance use disorders. Each of these facilities provide research-based support, and services to help ensure job readiness, successful recovery, and long-term healing. In all, this funding will allow these recovery homes to support nearly 200 individuals across the county.
Lake County will receive $160,039 to provide rental assistance to up to 21 individuals recovering from substance use disorders across four houses, supporting housing stability and reducing financial barriers during critical stages of the recovery process.
Logan and Champaign counties will receive $83,880 to provide supportive housing services to over 50 men and women in recovery from substance use disorders.
Paint Valley ADAMH (Fayette, Highland, Pickaway, Pike, and Ross counties) will receive $226,555 to provide rental subsidies for up to 150 low-income individuals in certified recovery homes across the five-county region.
