Construction worker discovers human remains in Fayette County

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of human remains, located in a wood line adjacent to Interstate 71 South near Milepost 64 in Jasper Township.

The discovery was reported Thursday evening shortly before 11 p.m.

Sheriff Vernon Stanforth reported that a highway construction worker contacted his office reporting that he had discovered possible human remains near the Rattlesnake Creek bridge on Interstate 71 South. Deputies working traffic control for the highway project were alerted and responded with other deputies. Upon arrival, it was confirmed that the skeletal remains were human.

Fayette County Coroner Dr. Lenora Fitton responded to the scene, conducting an investigative examination of the scene and took possession of the skeletal remains. The remains were transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for further examination.

The cause of death and identity of the remains are unknown at this time.
 
The discovery remains under investigation by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau in conjunction with the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.
