Words of appreciation to the Southern State Community College family and a promise to make decisions based on the best interests of the students highlighted Dr. Kevin Boys' speech at the presidential inaugural reception in his honor Sunday, April 25.
Many educators, administrators, students and past and present public officials gathered at the SSCC Central Campus to welcome the college's fifth president at the reception, hosted by the SS CC Board of Trustees.
Music for the reception was provided by Carrie Chalker and Daniel Morgan.
Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management James Bland served as the emcee, and introduced speakers and guests.
Among those who welcomed Dr. Boys were: U.S. Rep. Mike Turner, Faculty Senate President Randall Massie, Student Government President Kenneth Kapaun, Foundation Board Chair Jon Linkous, and SSCC Board Chair Kay Ayres.
In addition to thanking SSCC's five-county community, Dr. Boys thanked the trustees, the faculty, students and his administrative staff, many of whom were in attendance.
The president was joined by his wife, Diane, and daughter, Caitlin. The Boyses' son, Christopher, was ill and did not attend the reception. Dr. Boys' father, Clyde Boys, also was in attendance.
Dr. Boys, formerly the superintendent of the Loveland City School District, commented on making the transition from K-12 to leading the community college. He said his mission today is similar to his mission as a public school superintendent: Do what's best for the students.[[In-content Ad]]
