Promising a conservative and common-sense approach to state government, Cliff Rosenberger of Clarksville formally announced his campaign for Ohio's 86th House District Monday afternoon at the Highland County Administration Building conference room.

Rosenberger, a Republican, was introduced by his campaign manager, Hillsboro City Auditor Gary Lewis. Hillsboro City Council member David Shoemaker is serving as Highland County chairman for the campaign.

"Ohio has lost 320,000 jobs under Democrat leadership," Rosenberger told local supporters and family members in attendance. "I can no longer see the people of Ohio hurt by the very government that is supposed to protect them."

Rosenberger, who praised current 86th House Rep. David Daniels and endorsed Daniels' bid for the Ohio Senate, said higher taxes and excessive regulation are detrimental to the state's economy.

When asked the No. 1 issue facing the three-county (Highland, Clinton and Pike) House district, Rosenberger replied: "Jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs."

"And increasing taxes on Ohio citizens when 10 percent of the people are unemployed is not sound policy."

Rosenberger said Ohio GOP lawmakers have offered possible solutions to the state's poor economy, but are having trouble getting legislation through the Assembly. The Democrats hold a 53-46 majority in the House and the Republicans own a 21-12 majority in the Senate.

Rosenberger pointed to House Bill 25 and House Bill 318 as examples of legislation that directly affects Ohio taxpayers.

House Bill 25 would reduce the number of the governor's executive agencies and departments from 24 to 11. House Bill 318 was introduced in October to repeal the last reduction of income tax relief, effectively a 4.2-percent retroactive income tax increase.

Rosenberger also said "Regulation in Ohio is choking small business. We need to show people that Ohio is the place to educate your children and start your business. Ohio needs to be the incubator for small business."

According to his Web site, Rosenberger is a United States Air Force veteran assigned to the 113th fighter wing of the Air National Guard. His current duty is in Traffic Management Operations.

Rosenberger is a graduate of Clinton Massie High School and served as a village planner in Clarksville.
