Bright Local Schools to offer free meals to all students through Community Eligibility Provision

Bright Local Schools is pleased to announce its participation in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP) for the 2025-2026 school year.

This program allows ALL students enrolled at Bright Local Schools to receive free breakfast and lunch, regardless of household income.

The CEP is a provision under the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, which enables eligible schools to offer free meals to all students without requiring household applications. By implementing the CEP, Bright Local Schools aims to reduce food insecurity, ensure every student has access to nutritious meals, and foster a more inclusive and supportive school environment.

“We are proud to offer the Community Eligibility Provision beginning this school year,” said Jason Iles, Superintendent of Bright Local Schools. Last year we evaluated this program and financially it didn't make sense. WIth recent changes in calculations to the program its the best decision for the district. “This step reflects our ongoing commitment to meeting the basic needs of our students while supporting their academic success and overall well-being.”

Families in Bright Local Schools will not need to complete meal applications to receive the free meal benefits, as all enrolled students automatically qualify. Additionally, al a carte items and lunch charges will remain the same.
