Annual Lynchburg Village Christmas set for Dec. 8-9

By
Brian Vance, For The Highland County Press

The annual Lynchburg Village Christmas will be held Friday, Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Participating village residents will open their homes and offer a variety of homemade crafts. Participating businesses will offer extended hours, and the firehouse and Lynchburg-Clay High School will be home to many vendors who do not live in the village.

Always improving, the Village Christmas is an event that started 31 years ago as a way for local businesses and crafters to open their shops and homes to showcase their wares. Since its inception, the event has grown to include a live nativity/petting zoo, bingo, children’s crafts, music throughout the town, breakfast with Santa, world-famous magician Jake Lindsey and food trucks.

For the third year, the Village Administration will be hosting a lighted parade on Friday night, which culminates at the Old School Park with the Marching Mustangs performing Christmas music and Mr. & Mrs. Claus providing photo opportunities.

New this year will be a “passport” issued at participating locations. Stop by every business on the map and get it stamped. Completed passports can be exchanged at the Masonic Lodge (131 South Main St)
for a limited-edition Christmas ornament featuring the rededicated Covered Bridge. This ornament will be the first in a series.

The Masonic Lodge will also be accepting donations of monetary gifts and canned goods for the Because He Lives Food Pantry both days, and hosting a Breakfast with Santa on Saturday from 8-10 in the morning. Santa will also be at the Lodge through the day on Friday for children to visit.

Also new for 2023, the High School will be open from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, featuring over 45 crafters and vendors (in past years, they were open only on Saturday). The Lynchburg Firefighters Association will be hosting a turkey bingo at the Middle School on Saturday at 1 p.m., and the Lynchburg Cornerstone Gospel Church will have a kids craft zone.

The organizers of the event have endeavored to make each event better than the last and invite everyone to come experience a big event that can only come from a small town.
