The Highland County Press - Staff Photo - Create Article

By Jane Stowers

American Revolution and the Southern Ohio Genealogical Society collaborated on this beautiful monument on the grounds of the oldest courthouse in Ohio still in use.

The front contains the names of 255 patriots, and likenesses of settlers.

The back of this 12-foot monument has the history of Highland County along with the names of contributors.

Leading up to the America250 celebration, the DAR and SOGS also sent biographies of patriots to the local newspapers. The monument has a QR code that will in the future lead to those biographies.

The dedication was a big event with members of other DAR, SAR chapters represented.

Greetings from many including from State Regent Chris Nehring, read by State Librarian Stephanie Smith, Regents from Waw-wil-a-way and other chapters, SAR representatives, Highland County commissioners, State Sen.Shane Wilkin and many others.

Wreath laying, musket and cannon salutes, SAR in various dress made it a wonderful, colorful day to memorize America250 and this monument to the Revolutionary War patriots of Highland County.
