Altrusa International of Highland County received third place in the Letha H. Brown Literacy Award for their project “Windows to the World” during the International Convention held recently in Quebec, Canada.

This award is presented in honor of our outstanding efforts and achievement in literacy. It is quite an honor to receive an award at this level as entries were submitted from all over the world.

First place went to the Bentonville/Bella Vista, Arkansas club and second place to the Garland, Texas club.
Highland County’s project focused on bridging the literacy gap in our county which has a low literacy rate. The components for the project include Little Free Libraries, Books for All Kids (school kids grades K-5), Facebook Book Reviews, Book Fair Boosters, Kamp Dovetail, and the Highland House Museum Christmas tree project with books for kids under the tree. All these components have had an impact on over 8,000 people.

Altrusa of Highland County appreciates all the community support which allows us to have these projects in our communities.
