The District Five Altrusa Conference was recently held in Lima, where Altrusa of Highland County was proudly represented and recognized with several awards for outstanding club activities and projects.
As part of district expectations, each club produces a monthly newsletter and an annual yearbook containing important information for members. Awards are presented to honor excellence in these publications.
At this year’s conference, Altrusa of Highland County earned first place for its newsletter, receiving the prestigious Paula Reese Newsletter Award. Established in 1955, this award was originally sponsored by the Sidney Club and is now sponsored by the Akron Club.
Highland County also received the Mary B. Smith Yearbook Award, which recognizes the best yearbook in the district. This award was established in 1972 to honor Past Governor Mary Shanks. In 2016, Altrusa of Youngstown adopted and renamed the award in recognition of Mary B. Smith, a founding and longtime member of their club.
