Adena to Offer Free Stroke Risk Assessments

By
-

Do you know your stroke risk?  Free stroke risk assessments, sponsored by Adena Health System, will be offered at locations throughout the region during October.

The assessments will consist of free lab work including cholesterol and glucose, in addition to blood pressure screenings, stroke risk information and education provided by a healthcare professional that will assist each participant with an evaluation of their individual stroke risks and helpful tips for prevention and lifestyle changes.  No fasting is required.
Strokes happen when blood flow to the brain is disrupted. The signs of stroke are sudden and include numbness or weakness in the face, arm or leg; confusion; trouble speaking or understanding; trouble seeing in one or both eyes; difficulty walking; dizziness, loss of balance or coordination; or a sudden and severe headache with no known cause.

According to the National Stroke Association, stroke risk factors include medical conditions such as a previous stroke, episode of transient ischemic attack (TIA) or mini-stroke; high cholesterol; high blood pressure; heart disease; atrial fibrillation; and carotid artery disease.  Lifestyle factors that can be controlled include smoking, being overweight and drinking too much alcohol.

Adena-sponsored stroke risk assessments will take place throughout October in Chillicothe (October 9) Greenfield (October 12), Jackson (October 14) and Waverly (October 16).  Registration is required for each appointment by calling toll-free to Adena's physician referral line at 1-877-779-7585.

Appointments will be taken on a first call, first served basis.
