Missouri resident enjoys Jones Family Reunion in Lynchburg

Dear Editor,

I went to the Historical Jones Family Reunion on Sept. 9 in Lynchburg. This Jones family is related to over 400 most famous people in world history.

Abraham Jones (1632-1716) was our eighth great-grandpa, His wife’s name was Sarah (Whitman) Jones (1631-1718). Their daughter Sarah Jones (1660-1701) married Mordecai Lincoln (1730-1812). Abraham Jones is a fourth great-grandpa to our 16th president Abraham Lincoln.

Some other famous ancestors are Davy Crockett and Henry Richard Lee (1732-1794), who signed the Declaration of Independence document. Also, Gen. Robert Lee of the Civil War; this list goes on and on.

Our grandpa Arly Thomas Jones (1889-1964) was born in Hamersville, Ohio. Our grandma, Tressie Alice (Gravitt) Jones (1896-1962) was born in Clermont County, Ohio.

Also, we had ancestors who fought in the American Revolutionary War and the War of 1812, in the Civil War in Ohio and other states’ battles, too.

Our second great-grandfather Lewis Jones was mustered into service on Feb. 14, 1864, in Company F of the 1st Ohio Light Artillery Regiment with the rank of Private, to July 22, 1866 by reason of mustered out with battery.

We had family members who fought in World War I and II and in the Korean War. This list goes on and on.

Some of the Jones family that went to the family reunion were from Batavia, Leesburg, Cincinnati, Hillsboro, Lancaster, Aberdeen, Lynchburg and Georgetown, Ohio, and from Kentucky, too.

It was an extraordinary, wonderful family reunion of 2023.

Note: I was born in Missouri, and I am still living here. I was in Ohio Sept. 8-17. Everyone in Ohio I met were very nice people. Ohio is a very beautiful state.

Sincerely,

Wayne Jones
