Tiger Sharks repeat as SCOL champions

On a night where many South Central Ohio League records were broken, it was the McClain Tiger Sharks who left the pool as South Central Ohio League boys swimming champions for the second consecutive year.
The Tiger Sharks have now won four SCOL championships, as they previously won the title in '09, '10 and '12.
In the boys meet, MHS scored 387 points to gain the win, followed by Washington in second place at 327. In third was HHS at 271, fourth was Miami Trace at 210 and in fifth was Clinton-Massie at 64 points.
In the boys meet, there were six league records broken, including McClain's Tommy Free gaining the 200-yard freestyle record with a time of 2:05.68 and the 500-yard freestyle mark at 6:03.95.
New boys league records also included Washington's Ryan Kvarness winning the 200-yard individual medley at 2:25.20 and Ryan Smith (WCH) winning the 50-yard freestyle at :25.13. The Washington 400-yard freestyle relay team set a new record of 3:57.14, and Clinton-Massie's Andrew Stewart earned a new record for the 100-yard freestyle at :54.26.
In the girls SCOL meet, Miami Trace won the league title with 387 points. Washington was second at 363, and Clinton-Massie was third at 315. In fourth was McClain with 230 points, and in fifth was Hillsboro at 202. The sixth-place team was Madison-Plains at 36 points.
Two girls records were broken at the event with McClain's Morgan Dettwiller setting a new mark in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:23.22. Tessa Rohrs of MP set the record for the 100-yard backstroke at 1:08.53.
In the boys SCOL meet, the 200-yard medley relay saw HHS place second with a time of 2:08.59 with the team of Paul Burton, Guy Bailey, Nathan Boone and Braden Wildey.
The 200-Yard individual medley saw Nathan Boone (HHS) place second at 2:28.44.
In the 50-yard freestyle, HHS had Brandon Wildey place second at :25.56 and McClain's Adomas Fabin place third at :25.68.
The 100-yard freestyle saw Hillsboro's Nathan Boone place third at :57.16.
McClain was first in the 200-Yard freestyle relay, with the team of Tommy Henry, Daniel Mottie, Tommy Free and Adomas Fabin totaling a time of 1:48.10.
In the boys 100-yard breaststroke, Guy Bailey (HHS) was second at 1:21.96. In third was Ryan Page (MHS) at 1:22.69.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, McClain was second with Adomas Fabin, Aaron Litteral, Tommy Henry and Tommy Free earning a time of 4:02.95.
As for top finishers for the girls meet involving HHS and MHS, the 200-yard medley relay team of HHS was second at 2:22.44, consisting of Amie Griffith, Ali McKenna, Sydni Cox and Krista Savage.
Hillsboro's Sydni Cox won the 100-yard butterfly at 1:10.68.
The 200-yard freestyle relay was won by the MHS relay team of Amber Sowders, Alyssa Faulconer, Anna Ehlers and Morgan Dettwiller at 2:07.54.
In the 200-yard backstroke event, Sydni Cox (HHS) was second at 1:14.93.
The 400-yard freestyle relay saw MHS place third with the team of Morgan Dettwiller, Alyssa Faulconer, Anna Ehlers and Amber Sowders with a time of 4:47.30.
