O'Connor lifts Indians to Senior Night win over LC

HILLSBORO — For seven seniors, it was a banner Monday for them as they not only gained their eighth win of the season but won on their senior night as they defeated the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs 5-2 at Richards Memorial Field.
Leading Hillsboro (8-4-3) was senior Jordan O'Connor, who increased his goal total this season to 18 as he wrapped up the match against LC with a hat-trick, plus one more for good measure, putting the ball into the back of the next four times.
"Hillsboro played hard, and we played catch-up all game … that was the difference," LC coach Dennis West said. "We've given up 12 goals our last two games, and that's something we haven't done all year long."
In the first half alone, O'Connor compiled the hat-trick with his three goals coming at the 29:09, 18:06 and around the 2:00 mark of the half.
In between the goals by O'Connor, LC (8-5-2) scored a goal with 16:12 on the first half clock when Gage Waits scored with the assist by Chaz Lanier. O'Connor's first goal was assisted by Jarrod Hart.
With 3:50 on the first half clock, Hillsboro senior Reese Leibreich kicked the ball from around 25 yards out for a goal, and at the time, a 3-1 Indian lead.

O'Connor scored his fourth goal on a header with 39:05 remaining in regulation, and the final goal was scored by LC as Tennyson Cluff scored with 18:04 left in the match.
HHS honored seven seniors before the match. This seniors included: Brandon Carter, Connor Ernst, Jarrod Hart, Reese Leibreich, Jordan O'Connor, Michael Tamborski and Daniel Theobold.
"Overall, I'm extremely proud of the play from our seven seniors," HHS coach John Weber said. "I'd like to say this is an exclamation point to our season. We've had a few injuries lately, so it was nice to play healthy for the first time in over a week.
"We had several goals on beautiful passes, and this was a 100-percent team effort. Everyone wanted the same goal (Monday), and that was for the seniors to leave with a win on senior night."
HHS will play again on Thursday as they travel to London in a South Central Ohio League match at 6:30 p.m. LC will host Eastern Brown on Friday in Southern Hills League play.
In the Division II sectional postseason, HHS will play on Oct. 16 as they are the No. 3 seed and will host No. 6 seed McClain at 6 p.m. LC will host a TBA opponent on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 5 p.m. in their Division III sectional postseason.
