Lady Indians win sectional crown

HILLSBORO — The Hillsboro Lady Indians amped up their overall play in their postseason opener, and for their controlling offense they came out with a sectional title, defeating the Athens Lady Bulldogs, 7-0 Thursday at Richards Memorial Field.
HHS, a No. 1 seed, controlled the tempo for the entire match as they improved to 15-1-1 overall. The loss ends Athens' season at 8-8-1 overall.
Playing their final home match were HHS seniors Taylor Moberly, Taylor Stanforth and Zara Jenson Morgan, who all agreed after the game it was great to end their home career with a win.
"It felt great to get the win, and I love this team … they are the greatest," Moberly said. "From here on out, we are just taking it one game at a time."
Stanforth spoke about the win as well, saying she "couldn't picture a better team to get her final win at home with."
As for the sectional final win in the Division II bracket, it didn't take long for the Lady Indians to get on the board as the first goal was scored by Trista Rhodes with 32:22 left on the first-half clock from 35 yards away with the assist by Kaylynn Bell.
From there, there was no looking back from the HHS team as from the look of their play were in full postseason mode with their offensive and defensive intensity.
For the match, HHS had three players score the combined seven goals with Rhodes scoring two, Madison Colliver scoring two and Cheyney Myers leading the Lady Tribe with a hat-trick, scoring three times against Athens.
The second HHS goal was by Colliver, who kicked the ball from 25 yards away into the back of the net with 15:05 on the first-half clock. She was assisted by Mallory Sluss.

Myers scored for the first time in the match with 8:05 on the clock with an unassisted goal from 18 yards out.
Starting the second half with a three-goal advantage, the HHS lead soon went to four goals with Rhodes scoring on a header with 32 minutes left in regulation. The goal was assisted by Bell.
With 22:15 left in the match, HHS scored on a penalty kick by Myers for a 5-0 lead.
Colliver added her second goal of the match with 13:54 on the clock, scoring on a corner kick off the keeper for the six-goal advantage.
The final HHS goal came off the foot of Myers for the hat-trick with 13:01 remaining with the assist from Morgan.
"As we keep moving on in the postseason, our play must progress as well," HHS coach Leslie Molen said. "We just need to keep betting ourselves, be prepared, and I know this group is more than capable of improving in the postseason."
AHS went 1-1 in the postseason as they defeated Marietta in the sectional semifinal match earlier this week.
Next for the Lady Indians will be a district semifinal match on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 5 p.m. when they face either Chillicothe or Logan Elm.
