Indians move to regional final of team state duals

On Wednesday, the Hillsboro Indians advanced to the 2013 Regional Final of the inaugural OHSAA Wrestling Team Dual Tournament, by defeating Miami Trace and the Washington Blue Lions.
In what is the second week of the tournament, the Indians now have won against Bellbrook (a No. 6 seed), Washington (a No. 2 seed) and Miami Trace, the No. 1 seed of the Region 15-A bracket.
The Indians, the No. 3 seed of the Region 15-A bracket, defeated Washington, 36-27 and followed that up Wednesday with a 37-29 win over the host MT Panthers.
[[In-content Ad]]In their match against Bellbrook last week, HHS won over the No. 6 seed, 56-20. HHS received a bye in the first round.
MT earlier Wednesday advanced with a team forfeit win over Franklin who withdrew from the tournament.
HHS will now face the No. 1 seed of the Region 15-B bracket in Ross, who have defeated Hughes (83-0), Monroe (75-6) and New Richmond, 53-16. The Regional Final match with Ross will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. at a to be announced location, with the winner moving the the state quarterfinals in Columbus.
In the first round of tournament, Ross received a bye.
As for the semifinal in Region 15-A at MT on Wednesday, the Indians first defeated the Blue Lions, 36-27.
Neither of Wednesday's wins over Washington or Miami Trace count in the South Central Ohio League standings.
Winning their matches for HHS were Brandon Carter (106), Ryan Kelley (120), Cody Whaley (132), Craig Jackson (138), Kordell Ford (152), Connor Johnston (160), Darian Schumacher (182) and Jesse Hale (285).
Carter won by a pin fall at 1:14, as did Kelley, at 28 seconds. Whaley won via a 9-8 decision, and Jackson won with a 5-2 decision.
Ford won with a pin fall at 42 seconds, and Johnston won with a 9-6 decision.
Schumacher won over the Blue Lions with 9-2 decision, and Hale won his first match with a pin fall at 1:50.
In their second match of the night, against MT, the Indians won 37-29.
Winning for HHS were Carter (106) by a pin fall at 1:55 and Toby Warrington winning with a pin fall at 1:41 in the 120-pound weight class.
Kelley won with a major decision at 126 pounds vs. the Panthers, and Jackson dominated his match with an 11-5 victory at 138 pounds.
Dillon Hunick (145) won with a 5-4 decision, and Ford won with a 7-4 decision at 152 pounds.
Drew Huffman helped the Indians with a pin fall win at 1:36 in his 170-pound match.
The final HHS win vs. MT was a 220-pound win for Skylar Murphy.
