HHS earns 2nd shutout, defeat Tigers

HILLSBORO — Tuesday night was all Hillsboro in the scoring column as they topped cross-county rival McClain, 5-0 for the season sweep against McClain.
In their first meeting of the season at McClain Field, the Indians won 5-4, but the story was different at Richards Memorial Field in their second meeting as the Indians jumped ahead early and held their lead for the entire match.
The win moves HHS to 5-1-2 in the South Central Ohio League and 5-2-3 overall.
Hillsboro senior Jordan O'Connor led the Indians with a hat-trick, plus one as he scored two goals in the first half and two more in the second half.
"Overall, we started slow in the first 15 minutes of the match, but then we started passing, spread out the field and played consistent," HHS coach John Weber said. "We finished the first half strong and got to play a lot of players quite a bit.
"I'm proud this is our second shutout of the season. We need to strive for that each game."
O'Connor first scored with 33:30 on the clock as he kicked the ball to the right side of the net.
Senior Jarrod Hart made the score 2-0 with a goal at the 29:07 mark, and O'Connor made it a three-goal lead in the first half, scoring off a rebound with 27:01 on the clock.

O'Connor gained the hat-trick at the 24:00 mark of the second half with a wide-open net after the keeper went for a save on an earlier shot, knocking the ball to the left side of the goal.
The final goal of the match came with 12:43 remaining in the match as O'Connor scored on a header from 15 yards away, with the assist from Reese Leibreich.
"Thus far in the second half this season, there have been times where we've played down, but we've stayed consistent, and I'm happy to see that," Weber said. "We have just one loss since the fair break."
One standout for the Tigers was Tyler McGuire as the senior made numerous leaping saves in the match.
"The kids played their heart out," MHS coach Jon Chamblin said. "They don't give up, and (Tuesday) we played one good half and one bad half. It's been a tough season with us replacing so much from last year.
"Our younger guys are improving and we're moving the ball downfield, we just need to communicate more on the field and continue to come together as a team."
For HHS, Maverick Ward totaled 22 saves.
The loss drops MHS to 1-5-2 overall.
