Astros blast past Indians in 2nd half

For two games this week, the Hillsboro Indians were unable to collect a South Central Ohio League win, falling Friday night to the East Clinton Astros, 58-56 at Hillsboro High School.
The SCOL loss sends the two-time defending champs to 1-4 in league games this season, as they continue to rebuild after losing a majority of the two championship teams.
With the loss, the Indians hit the .500 mark at 5-5 overall. This is the Indians' third straight loss, all coming in SCOL games against Madison-Plains, Miami Trace and now EC. Their other league loss was at Washington, and they've defeated McClain for their lone league win.
As for the visiting Astros Friday night, who are in their first season as members of the SCOL, they led 11-10 after the first quarter, and following a second frame where HHS outscored EC, 17-10, it was the Tribe who led at the break by a 27-21 score.
In the third, EC outscored their entire first half as they totaled 24 points in the third eight-minute frame. HHS answered with 16 points in the same quarter, trailing 45-43.
Both teams scored 13 points in the fourth frame. With the win, the Astros improve to 5-6 overall and 3-3 in the SCOL.
[[In-content Ad]]Leading EC in scoring was Tyler Lewis with 21 points, 13 points in the second half. Dalton Floyd followed with 14 points, as his scoring was balanced throughout the game with three quarters of four points each.
EC made no 3-pointers and were 10-of-17 from the free-throw line.
Also scoring for the Astros were Clyde Snow with three points, Cole Floyd with four, Jerrett Huff with three, Hayden Knisley with six, Levi Luttrell with five and rounding out the scoring for the Astros was Jesse Livingston with two points.
For the Indians, senior Jarrod Hart led with a game-high 22 points, followed by Zach Young with 12 points and Latrell Haithcock with 11, including one 3-pointer.
Hart was 6-of-9 from the free-throw line and scored 17 of his 22 points in the second half. In the third, he scored eight points (including a 3-pointer), and in the fourth, he added nine points with his second 3-point bucket of the game.
Also scoring for the Indians were Jordan Captain with six, Trey Moberly with three and Reese Leibreich with two.
HHS was 17-of-25 from the free-throw line, including finishing the fourth frame 4-of-8. In the third, HHS made their lone free-throw attempts, and in the second quarter, they were 9-of-10, with Haithcock going 4-of-4 in the quarter and 6-of-6 in the game from the charity stripe. In the first frame, HHS was 3-of-6 with their foul shooting.
The Indians are back on the court Saturday evening (Jan. 12) as they host the London Red Raiders in a makeup game that was postponed earlier in the season.
