Wilkin announces millions for Jackson County from capital budget process
State Senator Shane Wilkin (R-Hillsboro) announced more than $6.3 million in funding that will support projects in Jackson County.
The investment comes from House Bill 2, the state's Capital Budget bill.
"Jackson County has countless historical gems, cultural hubs, and public safety and community service organizations that all serve residents well," Wilkin said. "Many of these groups will be receiving critical dollars that will help them renovate to reinvigorate our neighborhoods. I look forward to seeing these projects develop in Jackson County."
The projects funded in Jackson County include:
• Louvee Theater, $1,500,000
• Jackson County Memorial Building Renovation,$2,500,000
• City of Jackson Park and Trail Revitalization,$1,000,000
• Jackson County Courthouse Building/Grounds Renovation, $600,000
• Blamer Park Renovation, $392,038
• Wellston Food Pantry Turn-Key Renovation, $200,000
• Wellston Fire Department Training Academy, $175,000.
The legislature generally approves a Capital Budget every two years, funding needed improvements to public services and facilities across the state, including schools, infrastructure, and mental health and addiction facilities. House Bill 2 includes $600 million for new construction and facility upgrades at Ohio's public schools and $575 million for local infrastructure projects such as roads and water and sewer projects.
In addition to the traditional process, $700 million was set aside through the One-Time Strategic Community Investment Fund to support projects throughout Ohio that normally would not qualify for capital budget dollars.
House Bill 2 has been signed into law and is now effective.
Senator Shane Wilkin represents the 17th District in the Ohio Senate, which encompasses Fayette, Gallia, Highland, Hocking, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross and Vinton counties, as well as part of Perry County.
